Outlook/Teams - Intune setup for Android handheld devices


This walk-through will guide you on how to install and setup the Intune Company Portal app on an Android device. Installing and setting up this app is necessary to be able to access your CareATC email (Outlook) and Microsoft Teams from your phone.

Prerequisites:

  • Microsoft Authenticator for CareATC must be setup on your cell phone or another handheld device and that device must be present during Intune setup (if you wish, the authenticator can be setup on the same device you are setting up Intune on).
  • Seek approval by sending an email to support@careatc.com asking for email access on your mobile device (if you have already done so, you can ignore this prerequisite).

Please note, Android devices are made by different manufacturers and steps/images in this walk-through may vary slightly. These instructions are made on a Google Pixel 6A running Android 15.


Check your phones settings to make sure they comply with the following rules:

  • Lock-screen Passcode must be a minimum of 8 characters long (Settings --> Security & privacy --> Device unlock --> Screen lock)
  • Require PIN immediately after the screen locks (Settings --> Security & privacy --> Device unlock --> gear icon next to Screen lock --> Power button instantly locks)
  • Auto-Lock screen after a maximum of 5 minutes (Settings --> Security & privacy --> Device unlock --> gear icon next to Screen lock --> Lock after screen timeout)

  1. Make sure you meet the above Prerequisites.
  2. Navigate to the Google Play Store on your Android device and search for Intune Company Portal. Install the app.

  1. If you see a pop-up for 'Allow Company Portal to send you notifications?', hit Allow

  1. Tap the SIGN IN button.

  1. Type your CareATC-issued email address into the field that says 'Email or phone', then hit Next.

  1. Type your password in the 'Enter password' field, then hit Sign in.

  1. Intune Company Portal will send a notification to the device that has your Microsoft Authenticator app installed. This notification will say Approve sign-in? Tap on this notification, then in the pop-up that appears type the 2-digit number shown within the black box on your Intune Company Portal app.

  1. Once your sign-in with your CareATC email has been authenticated, you will be taken to a page that says 'CareATC Access Setup' at the top. Tap the button that says Begin in the bottom-right of your screen.

  1. You are now on a page that says 'CareATC cares about your privacy' at the top. This page tells you everything that this app can and cannot do from a privacy perspective. If privacy is something you are concerned about, please read over this page carefully before continuing. When you are ready to move on, hit the CONTINUE button at the bottom-right.

  1. Your phone will take a few seconds to load the next section, then you will be taken to a page that says 'Let's set up your work profile' at the top. Click the Accept & continue button in the bottom-right.

  2. Your phone will take a minute or two to setup the work profile. Once the process has completed, you should see 'Data in your work profile is visible to your IT admin' at the top and a Next button in the bottom-right of your screen. Hit the Next button and you will be taken back to the Intune Company Portal app.

  3. You will be taken to a screen with a green checkmark in place of the number 1. Hit the CONTINUE button in the bottom-right.

  4. Your app will take a minute or so to process the final setup of the work profile, then (provided your phone's security settings are in compliance) you will be shown a screen with three green checkmarks. Hit the DONE button at the bottom.

  1. The work profile and Company Portal setup is complete. If you are interested in learning more about how this app and the work profile work, immediately following hitting the DONE button in the previous step you will be shown a page that says 'Your new work setup' at the top. Hit the link that says 'Learn more about your new work setup'. If you are not interested, or have already read through the link, hit the GOT IT button and you will be taken the Intune Company Portal app main page.

  1. To install apps for CareATC use, open the hamburger menu (three horizontal lines stacked vertically) in the top-left and hit 'Get Apps'. Alternatively, hit the OPEN button that appears in the bottom-right on first look at the app's main page.

Please note, when making an Android Work Profile, it will place the CareATC managed apps in a separate area. Also, all apps that are Work managed will have a little blue briefcase icon in the bottom-right corner.
